['brɔkhaʊz], Bertram Neville, kanadischer Physiker, * Lethbridge (Provinz Alberta ) 15. 7. 1918; 1950-62 am Forschungsreaktor der Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories (Chalk River, Ontario), ab 1960 als Leiter der dortigen Abteilung Neutronenphysik tätig; von 1962-84 Professor für Physik an der McMaster University in Hamilton (Ontario). Brockhouse arbeitete insbesondere zur inelastischen Neutronenstreuung und Neutronenspektroskopie, er entwickelte u. a. ein spezielles Spektrometer (Dreiachsenspektrometer) zur Bestimmung des Energiespektrums der gestreuten Neutronen. Seine Arbeiten bereiteten den Weg für atomare Strukturanalysen von Flüssigkeiten und Festkörpern mithilfe von Neutronen. Für die Entwicklung von Neutronenstreuungstechniken zum Studium kondensierter Materie wurde Brockhouse zusammen mit Clifford G. Shull 1994 mit dem Nobelpreis für Physik ausgezeichnet.
